Ultimate Elton – the leading Elton John tribute @ Acapela Studio
Feb 2 @ 8:00 pm – 10:45 pm

Ultimate Elton Ultimate Elton – the leading Elton John tribute comes to Cardiff

Some tribute artists look like their idol, some sound like their idol. Paul Bacon as Sir Elton John does both! Close your eyes and you won’t believe your ears, open your eyes and you won’t believe them either! You simply won’t find a closer tribute to Sir Elton John.

Rapidly established as the foremost Elton John tribute act in the UK, ‘Ultimate Elton and The Rocket Band’ present an uncannily accurate reproduction of the classic live shows of one of pop music’s most successful and best-loved artists – performances that also often feature some of Elton’s actual costumes, bought from his ‘Out the Closet’ sales!

Paul as Ultimate Elton received the ultimate accolade recently when he was asked to perform with his band at the 90th birthday celebrations of Elton John’s very own mother- Sheila Fairbrother. Among the guests which included close friends, relatives and celebrities was Kiki Dee who sang the classic “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ with Paul and the band. Paul says, “It was a fabulous night, and one I’m sure we will remember for many many years!”

Ultimate Elton and The Rocket Band are now much in demand at festivals and theatres throughout the UK and beyond. They are certainly one of the top tribute acts working on the circuit today and this has recently been recognized at the recent National Tribute Awards, run by the influential ‘The Agents Association’ of Great Britain, who awarded the band ‘Official UK No 1’ for performances as the ever popular Elton John Band!

Quotes:

“Hi Paul

Just wanted to say a big Thank You for the gig on Saturday at my party. You were sensational and everyone was just amazed and enjoyed it all so much. Do say a big Thank You to the lads for me for doing such a good job. They really are great musicians and you all deserve a lot of praise and good fortune…Everyone loved you all and are still raving about it all.

Best wishes to you and the band” Sheila Farebrother (Elton John’s Mother)

“I was at the real Elton’s first rehearsal with Nigel and Dee before his first gigs back in the 70’s. This band has all the raw energy of that early line up. Quite simply the best Elton tribute you will see or hear anywhere!” Stuart Epps, Record Producer.

“Blimey, he’s got it down, band are great too. How are his tantrums?” Clive Franks, Elton John Record Producer and Elton’s live sound engineer for over 35 years

“Looks great and sounds great…The best tribute that I’ve seen!” Bob Halley, worked with Elton for over 30 years

Mark Nevin of Fairground Attraction @ Acapela Studio
Feb 9 @ 8:00 pm – 10:45 pm

Mark NevinMark Nevin of Fairground Attraction

Fairground Attraction founder, songwriter and double BRIT Award winner Mark Nevin takes his brilliant band on tour in 2018.

Beside writing the classic Perfect (which celebrates 30 years since topping the charts around the world) and the much loved album ‘First of a Million Kisses’, his songs have been recorded by David Bowie, Morrissey, Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker, Kirsty Maccoll etc etc, the list goes on. But it is as a unique performer that Nevin has finally claimed his rightful place at the centre of the stage.

His latest album ‘My Unfashionable Opinion’ has enjoyed extraordinarily enthusiastic reviews, described by Mojo magazine as “songs of hope, joy, ironic insight and spectacular humanity” it takes the listener on a fascinating journey through a life well lived.

Expect a night quite unlike anything else out there. Mark weaves his humorous, moving and inspiring stories between great songs, old and new. He is joined by original Fairground Attraction band-mates, Simon Edwards on bass, Roger Beaujolais, who dazzles on the vibraphone and drummer Richard Marcangelo.

“What a gem of an evening, a beautiful discovery” The Junction, Goole. “A fantastic show” Bridport Arts Centre.

Fleetingwood Mac (A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac) @ Acapela Studios
Feb 10 @ 8:00 pm – 10:15 pm

Fleetwood Mac tribute CardiffFleetingwood Mac (A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac)

The amazing tribute to Fleetwood Mac return to Acapela, Cardiff.

Not another tribute band, with tacky wigs and fancy dress outfits. Instead a band that bring across the live sound of Fleetwood Mac, with just one guitar, a keyboard, a drum kit, a man on the bass and of course, the vocals!

Fleetwood Mac have featured eight different Guitarists & Vocalists. A band that tour arenas all over the world, with six extra touring musicians. A band that started out as part of the sixties British Blues Invasion and ended up as one of the biggest mainstream groups of the eighties. Let’s not even get into the scandals, relationships and excesses……

Fleetingwood Mac bring the classic songs that play a huge part in many people’s lives to life, introducing the songs to a new generation of Fleetwood Mac fans, who weren’t even born when the band were in their prime. The band do not go on stage pretending to be Fleetwood Mac, instead they perform as five young musicians who love the music, and want to share the music of one of the worlds greatest bands to a wider audience.

This is one not too miss!

Songs you can expect to hear

Rhiannon, Go Your Own Way, Sisters of the Moon, Oh Well, Tusk, I’m so Afraid, Everywhere, Songbird, Gold Dust Woman, Don’t Stop, You Make Loving Fun, Black Magic Woman, Dreams, Little Lies, Gypsy, Say You Love Me, The Chain, Landslide, Seven Wonders, Silver Spring, Second Hand News, Isn’t it Midnight, Sara, As Long As You Follow, Oh Diane, Big Love, Blue Letter, Hold Me, Green Manalishi, World Turning, Edge Of Seventeen.

India Electric Company at Acapela Studio

India Electric Company**** “Bursting with invention and full of surprises.” – The Telegraph

**** “Their reeling, spinning sound corroborates the content of their songs which appear to be describing a life alive with motion. They are altogether a good thing, busy as rush hour but full of light.” – The Independent on Sunday

Sometimes folk, sometimes not. India Electric Company use traditional instruments in contemporary styles to explore diverse themes from Eastern Europe, Irish traditions and urban alienation to end up with something “quirky and glittery – a veritable musical magpie’s nest.” – Mary Ann Kennedy, BBC Radio 3.

After releasing their debut debut album The Girl I Left Behind Me in 2015 they began extensively supporting and accompanying Midge Ure throughout Europe. They performed live sessions on BBC Radio 2, 6 Music, as well as playing the likes of Glastonbury Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival. Currently they are embarking on their first tours of Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia and Ireland to coincide with the release of their latest recordings.

National Theatre Wales

THE STORM CYCLE
Created by Mike Pearson & Mike Brookes

A series of six productions conceived, designed and directed by Pearson and Brookes, creators of some of the company’s most critically-acclaimed work to date (The PersiansCoriolan/us, Iliad). These multimedia works will be performed at different locations across Wales, at a variety of scales and sizes, exploring two key themes; truth and testimony. They will culminate in 2020 with the creation of a major, new, large-scale production for our 10th anniversary programme.

There is a storm coming…
We live in tempestuous times: an era of climatic and environmental

uncertainty and of
social and political upheaval. Perhaps it was always so.
But what new forms can theatre develop and adopt: to engage with and to reflect the
temper of our times?
An urgent theatre: fit for purpose, addressing and expressing our present realities
Of living in the eye of the storm

STORM.2: THINGS COME APART
