MORRISTON ORPHEUS CHOIR with TERRY BLACKWOOD and THE IMPERIALS in Concert
This large choir has performed in many great venues including the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall and routinely draws plaudits wherever it appears.
Its most recent triumph was the Centenary of the Battle of The Somme where the 10,000 people gathered at the Thiepval Memorial and the millions more watching on television were brought to tears by the choir’s outstanding rendition of Abide with Me.
Morriston Orpheus Choir maintains a massive repertoire of traditional and modern pieces in English, Welsh and other languages and is constantly developing new and impressive pieces. The great Welsh hymn tunes stir the soul and stoke the hiraeth. The popular songs lighten the spirit and bring a smile to the face. Whatever the genre the pieces are performed with feeling and delivered perfectly.
The high standards of the Morriston Orpheus Choir are maintained by the excellent music staff who are all professional musicians renowned in the Welsh music scene.
The Imperials are back – and appearing at Princess Royal Theatre with the internationally renowned Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir – with a concert of Elvis gospels songs and ballads sung like you’ve never heard before.
Elvis’ first love was gospel and few, other than his most dedicated fans, know that all three of the Grammy awards that Elvis won were for his gospel recordings. And from those he was easily able to develop his unique voice into singing some of our most memorable power ballads. Already famous in the USA as a gospel group in their own right, it was to The Imperials that Elvis turned to be his backing singers when he made his famous ‘comeback’ in Las Vegas, and so who better to share Elvis’ amazing legacy of gospels and ballads with us than Terry Blackwood and the Imperials.
They will share the stage and the performance with one of the UK’s most celebrated male voice choirs, the Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir of South Wales – themselves brilliant exponents of Elvis’ work and it was with The Imperials that the Choir received standing ovations at previous concerts in Cardiff, Swansea and Coventry over the last few years.
If you enjoy good music and would like to experience a concert with a difference that will have you leaving the auditorium with that feel-good factor lifting your spirits sky high; then this concert is for you.
