The Billy Joel Songbook at Cardiff New Theatre 29th October 2021

A night of world-class musicianship

Born in Surrey, Elio Pace has been singing and playing piano since the age of four. While growing up, he was greatly influenced by the music of Elvis Presley. After training at Leeds College of Music, he entered BBC’s Bob Says Opportunity Knocks in 2014 and reached the final, which opened doors for him on TV and the stage.

Billy Joel Songbook

During the next decade, Pace worked in musical theatre, both as a cast member and music director for shows like Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and West Side Story. He even appeared as Elton John and Billy Joel in Bill Kenwright’s Thank You For The Music.

In 1993, he also formed The Elio Pace Band, playing venues across the UK.

Pace had always regarded Billy Joel as an amazing vocalist and lyricist. In 2013, he was invited to fill the icon’s shoes at reunion concerts with Joel’s original 1971-72 touring band in New York and Philadelphia.

Upon returning to the UK, Pace created The Billy Joel Songbook, a show celebrating Joel’s artistry. Instead of trying to do an impression, The Elio Pace Band channels his artistry while performing an array of songs – from Joel’s biggest hits to others he doesn’t perform live anymore.

Over the next two years, Pace took The Billy Joel Songbook on a 70-date UK and Ireland tour. In 2015, one of those shows was filmed during which he played 30 classic Billy Joel tunes including Uptown Girl, Just The Way You Are, My Life, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, It’s Only Rock And Roll and New York State Of Mind.

The result was the 2018 concert film The Billy Joel Songbook Live, which received an award at the 17th annual Independent Music Awards in New York City for Best Overall Long Form Music Video. Among other accolades, Sir Terry Wogan said The Billy Joel Songbook is “only sensational”, while Pace counts Huey Lewis and Queen’s Brian May among his fans.

In late April 2021, Pace announced a UK tour of his award-winning show The Billy Joel Songbook in September and October 2021.

Olly Murs announces 11 date UK tour for April & May 2023

Since bursting onto the music scene as the runner-up on the 2009 series of The X Factor, pop singer and songwriter Olly Murs has achieved an incredible amount of success.

Not long after the competition, Murs embarked on a sold-out X Factor arena tour and his debut single Please Don’t Let Me Go shot straight to the top of the charts in September 2010. His second hit, Thinking Of Me, peaked at No.4 in November of the same year. His self-titled debut record followed soon after, landing at No.2 on the UK albums chart.

Murs then decided to take his music in a different direction with his 2011 single Heart Skips A Beat, featuring Brighton hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks. It went right to the No.1 spot on the UK singles chart, and his follow-up album, In Case You Didn’t Know, did the same that autumn. Ollie Murs’ next tour was the star’s first headlining UK arenas.

Three more albums – 2012’s Right Place Right Time, 2014’s Never Been Better and 2016’s 24 Hrs – came in regular succession, with corresponding arena tours taking place during the intervening years. Co-written along with Steve Robson, Claude Kelly and Flo Rida, the lead track from Murs’ third album, Troublemaker, became his fourth solo single to reach No.1 and his biggest selling single to date.

Alongside his music career, in 2012 Murs released his illustrated autobiography Happy Days. In it, he opened up about challenges with depression and anxiety that came with his sudden rise to fame. Since then, he’s worked closely with mental health charities like Brainwave and #IAMWHOLE, which presented the ground-breaking Music 4 Mental Health concert in 2018.

In 2018, Murs got his own spinning red chair when he joined the coaching panel of The Voice UK. The following year, Team Olly member Molly Hocking was crowned the champion of the TV competition’s eighth series.

Murs spent the summer of 2019 touring the UK with a huge run of shows celebrating 10 years in the music industry, as well as promoting the release of his sixth studio album, 2018’s You Know I Know. The double album featured a selection of Murs’ greatest hits, as well as 14 new songs.

A devoted football fan and talented footballer, Murs is co-owner of Essex’s non-league Coggeshall Town FC. Often a participant in charity football matches, in September 2020, he captained England in Soccer Aid at Old Trafford.

In summer 2021, Murs embarked on a huge UK tour performing his biggest hits – including tracks from his triple platinum album Never Been Better – that continues through summer 2022. On 20 September 2021, he was revealed as the first headliner for Trentham Live, appearing on 4 September 2022.

In August 2022 Olly Murs signed with EMI for his first studio album in four years, Marry Me, with a release date 2 December. ‘Die Of A Broken Heart’ is its lead single.

TV’s rising star, and award-nominated comedian, Darren Harriott will be touring the UK on his 2023 tour entitled ‘Roadman’. Darren has come a very long way since his early days growing up in the Black Country and now with a plethora of other TV shows yet to be announced, this young man is set to go stratospheric!

Darren said “I can’t wait to get back on the road, man! The new show will have stories from when I was a fat kid, to my life in gangs and being a security guard, so touring at lovely theatres will be a dream compared to stopping shop lifters at Primark and guarding a Xmas tree in Birmingham city centre for a whole week.”
